Summer of 2009:

My elder brother Krushik, was based in UK. I had just appeared for my 12th Grade Exams and had a good 3-4 months of School. This is when - one day.. I received an email. It was my bro. And little did he surprise us!! He had just got married!! I mean M A R R I E D! I was shell shocked.. and conveyed this message to my Mum. Dad passed away almost 5 years back. That is when my bro - who had just completed his Graduation - decided to shift base to the UK. It was a hot spot of employment then. He was doing quite well - after spending about 2-2 1/2 years, he did call us there. Mum wasn't too keen on going though. I jumped to the opportunity - although Mum insisted I complete my primary education (10 + 2 atleast) and therefore focus on my studies.

Well, he was married, and he was married alright. In the mail he'd attached two tickets for the UK. I was over the moon - just at the opportunity to fly abroad - meet my bro - and finally meet my "bhabhi". Although Mum's reaction was otherwise. She didn't take my bro's action in the right spirit.

Finally after much deliberation - it was decided - Mum was to stay back in India - while I was to head to the UK for spending my summer Holidays with my Brother & Sister in Law.

I was fairly built. Like literally. Fair. 5"8. Average body. Shoulder length hair et al. Got these features from my Dad who was a Kashmiri. I was very good with Academics. Loved Football and at the same time competent with house hold chores. Yes, household chores. My Mum always said she wished I was her daughter. As after Dad passed away and after my Brother's departure to the UK - the entire responsibility of our house was rested on Mum's shoulder. Not that we had a big house or a big family. But I was about 10-12 years old then.

Right from that age - I helped Mum around the house. Be it Cooking, Washing, Cleaning, Gardening etc. Mum was an expert Dancer and conducted quite a few Workshops at Home just to keep that extra income coming in, as living merely on Dad's pension was impossible. This is how in inherited grace and composure. As, at times I had to double up as a dancing partner to many of my Mum;s students.

The Journey:

Well, UK it was. My bro picked me up from the Airport. Bro had taken an off just so he could receive me and took me home. My bhabhi was out on work. She was a Make Up Artist.

By supper, I had the chance to freshen up and change. Bhabhi just reached home then. And what could I tell you. She was the most amazing beauty I had ever seen. My brother sure was lucky.

We had dinner and were sitting by the fireplace till the wee hours of the night. It was good knowing each other then. We spoke at lengths. We spoke about our childhood. How difficult it was for Mum to raise two kids. Me actually. How I had mastered the art of Cooking, Washing and Cleaning and finally, how easy would it have been for Mum had I been her Daughter.

My bhabhi's parents lived in Punjab, India. And she was here with her much older brother. Who was by the way still a bachloer. He had rejected close to about 27 Girls!!

We were all high on wine I guess then. Bhabhi suggested, she had a whacky idea to introduce the both of us. Bhabhi suggested, we play a prank on Vikram - her elder brother. She suggested they dress me up as a prospective Bride and introduce the both of us. And by the end of it - give him a shocker. My bro was not at all comfortable with such stupid an idea and asked us to go to sleep. He rushed into his room.

Some how though. Bhabhi talked me into it. I was all but 16 then. Full of enthusiasm and open to try new things. Besides. Wearing a Dress wasn't all that new to me. A number of times I had donned the role of an "extra" or "partner" - female - for a host of my Mum's dance performances. Even in school. Being an all Boys school - we used to take turns each year to be the female lead - in a dance or a play - for our annual day.

Namaste London:

Imagine! First day on foriegn soil.. completely on my own. Dressed in a turquoise salwar suit - headed to meet my suitor.... Vikram

Bhabhi was a Magician when it came to make up. And she sure did work her magic on me too.

She dyed my hair - PIERCED MY EARS!! (hated her for doing that!!!) - got me a pair of Breast Forms (actually, they were a part of her daily jing bing) - and finally a new name. "Krutika"

I was to introduce myself as Krutika Khanna.

I looked every inch of a female. My eybrows were done. My skin was moisturised. I was wearing a Corset underneath and enough padding on my butt - to lend me that perfect hourglass figure!! I was 16 and my voice wasn't as bad - it hadn't break then. So basically.. I was very passable! Vikram better not reject me!! Whoa! What was I thinking.

As soon as I reached the Hotel. I called up Vikram and checked. He was already there and walked to receive me out.

The New Beginings:

Bhaiya didn't appreciate my actions - he was angry on bhabhi too. Vikram and I had just about started talking, when bhaiya stormed to the Hotel and lead me out.

We reached home and I was asked to change ASAP! Bhaiya was furious.

As I went to the Dressing Table and started to first take my jewellry out - I was amazed by my own beauty.

Once undressed - I stood in front of the mirror clad simply in a satin blue bra and turquoise panties - with a figure to die for!! No guy could have ever rejected me! No guy would ever believe that I wasn't the dream date they were out with... What must have been going on in Vikram's head I thought...?

I nudged my head - I was startled - what was I thinking!! But then I couldn't blame myself for that.. what a first day it was.. in London.

Days passed, and weeks - I was usually at home going about the household chores - as bhabhi was mostly out of the house. Vikram and I had become pals - and he'd forgotten about the prank. Although he did mention once - that had I been a real girl - No. 28 wouldn't have been a reject. I was both embaressed and flattered at the same time.

Just a fortnight more before I left for India. My results were due in a few days. Bhabhi's efforts last month - with my hair and eyebrow and skin were still intact - I was secretly praying it all grows back to normal by the time I am to fly to India - afraid - Airport, Immigration authorities wouldn't take me to be the person in the Passport photograph. Moreover, I would be joked about once landed in India.

D Day:

I was waiting all day - sitting in front of the Computer - waiting for my results to arrive - my friend Shyalmalee was to email me the same. 12 Standard in India was always competitive - I would have to apply to Grad school next. Take care of many other responsibilities - I was under tremendous pressure.

Finally, the phone rang - not an email. It was Shyalmalee!! The results were out. I had scored a First Class. I was overjoyed!! As I knew more then my results my aptitude during the Entrance Exam would get me into one of the best Colleges in the Country.

That is when - Shyalmalee threw it at me!! At first I couldn't beleive what she said.. after chatting with a few friends online and checking the Univ website - my worst fears were translated to reality!!

The University had decided to scrap the Univ Entrance Tests - and instead - admissions would be solely given on the basis of Merit. And a First Class didn't gaurantee a good college by any means.

I wept and wept and wept more - all night. Bhaiya Bhabhi were really concerned now. Days passed by.

Then, one day...
Bhabhi basically couldn't see me weeping and sad all day long.. everyday.. everynight. She tried pacifying me quite a lot of times - but my inner guilt had left me gutted - how now was I to support my ailing mother - how else would I make a decent living - my complacent behaviour had cost me a good career ahead.

Bhabhi in turn had secretely spoken to my mother and brother. She had devised a plan - that would take care of everything.

She took me inside her room.

I was worried. But I was very down. She handed me a cup of coffee and asked me to carefully listen to her.

As I was sipping the coffee - the unravelled her plans - one by one..

I was starteled!! At first - I said "this can't happen" - but bhabhi was a strongly willed and highly opinionated lady. She did manage to convince me. I asked "what about mother and brother" - she said she'd taken care of my Brother and that Mother will know the truth too.... (how would she accept it - I wondered)... that is when bhabhi added - mother would know only the partial trurth.

The UK had a lot of good Univs. It was thus decided I stay back here. Finish my education, earn a living & then call Mum here - to stay with us.

But there was a catch. My education expenses would be a huge liability on my brother. Also, find a suitable job was out of question as I wasn't qualified enough.

This is where bhabhi's main part came into play - also the partial truth. The UK did indeed have a lot of good Univs. albeit all on the expensive side - but the catch - expensive for Boys - for Krutika - it would mean 80% subsidy.

20% was still a lot of Money though. How would we simply manage to pull this thing off!! The catch again - it was just 5% for resident women of the UK.

OK. So I was to attend College as Krutika - I was to attend the same as a citizen of the UK... and how??

Catch No.: 3 - bhabhi said - she had already spoken at lengths about this to my brother and hers. Wait.. wait.. wait.. my brother OK!! Why did she have to be talking about this to hers!!

Bhabhi was prompt to reply... "sweety... He's your Green Ticket to residency"

OH MY GOD!!

So this is what it was.

Mr. Krushabh Singh Rana would hvae to officially become Mrs. Krutika Vikram Khanna...

The Transition:
It was decided that we would follow a step by step process. The admissions were round the corner - so it was imperative that I begin and complete my transition ASAP!

That very day of our discussion - Bhabhi took me along to her parlour and introduced me as her "nanand" - who needed a serious makeover.

Her gang of girls therefore started working on me. First the legs - then the hands... toes and fingers... by body hair - under arms etc... all cleaned and sanitised. Finally my face.. my eyes and lips... and my hair. My ear lobes were pierced... "ouch"... that hurt.

while I was being done up
 The RESULTS!! were astounding....

and.. Krutika was born.. just like the name means: bright shining star
bhabhi chose an orange tank top and a polka dot skirt for her would be nanand
